Arriving
Orvieto (below the rock). On the Rome-Florence main line (about an hour from Rome), which makes Orvieto the easiest hill town in Italy to reach: the funicular opposite the station lifts you straight up onto the rock.

Funicular single €1.30: 90 minutes, including the shuttle minibus from Piazza Cahen to the Duomo.
At the funicular stations; the combined ride-plus-shuttle ticket is the default.
Two funicular tickets bracket the visit; everything on top is on foot.
On foot
- ·The whole plateau is a 20 minute walk end to end, flat by hill-town standards once you are up
- ·Do not miss the quiet western end past San Giovenale, where the town fades into cliff-edge lanes and views
Taxis and driving
- ·A small rank at the station; rarely needed given the funicular
- ·Leave the car in the big paid lot by the station (Campo della Fiera also has escalators up); the top is ZTL and the medieval streets were not drawn with cars in mind
