none (nearest rail is Sorrento). Arrive by SITA bus from Sorrento (the classic cliff-road ride, sit on the sea side) or by seasonal ferry to the beach dock, which avoids the traffic and delivers the postcard arrival.

Tabaccherie and bars before boarding; the local shuttle loops the one-way road through town when the stairs have won.

- ·Positano is vertical: the town is one long stair between the road above and the beach below, and every hotel description hides a step count
- ·Pack light and wear real shoes; porters exist for a reason here
Taxis and driving
- ·Local taxis charge fixed premium rates; for hops along the coast the ferry is cheaper, faster and prettier
- ·Even locals avoid driving into Positano: the road through town is one-way, narrow and slow, and parking is the most expensive on the coast. Leave the car in Sorrento
