Sorrento (Circumvesuviana). The Circumvesuviana terminus sits right in the town centre: the same line runs to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples, so day trips need no planning at all.

Sorrento itself is compact and walkable; transit matters for leaving it. The Circumvesuviana covers Naples and the ruins, SITA buses run the coast road to Positano and Amalfi (the COSTIERASITA day pass covers the whole coast), and hydrofoils from Marina Piccola serve Capri and Naples
Circumvesuviana tickets at the station or EAV app; SITA tickets from tabaccherie before boarding, never on the bus; ferry tickets at the port or operator sites.
On foot
- ·The town is flat and strollable, but the port sits well below the centre: the lift by Villa Comunale (or a long stair) links the two
- ·Corso Italia closes to traffic on summer evenings and becomes the passeggiata
Taxis and driving
- ·Taxis are plentiful but pricey; agree the fare for hotel-to-port hops, and remember the lift covers the same climb for pocket change
- ·A car is a liability here in summer: the coast road crawls, parking is expensive and scarce. Arrive by train, day-trip by boat and bus
