Arriving
Tropea. A 10 minute walk from the old town on the clifftop. The rail gateway is Lamezia Terme Centrale on the main north-south line (also the airport hub), from which regionals reach Tropea in about an hour, less often than you would like.

The town is compact on its cliff: lanes, viewpoints and stairs down to the beaches. The single regional line along the Costa degli Dei is the transit; for Capo Vaticano and the coves, summer shuttles and taxis fill the gaps

On foot
- ·The descent to the beach and Santa Maria dell'Isola is a long stair each way; mornings beat both the heat and the climb back up
- ·The old town's belvederes over the white sand and the Stromboli horizon are the whole point; sunset from Largo Migliarese is the postcard
Taxis and driving
- ·Small local fleet, book ahead in August; useful for Capo Vaticano when the shuttle timetable thins
- ·A car unlocks the Costa degli Dei coves, but Tropea's centre is ZTL in season and parking tightens in August; lots sit above the town
