Bergamo. The station anchors the lower town; the famous walled Città Alta hangs above it, reached by bus plus the funicular, one urban ticket covers the whole climb.

Single ticket €1.60: 75 minutes on buses and the Città Alta funicular.

One day of lower town, funicular, Città Alta and San Vigilio (its own smaller funicular) makes the 24h ticket the obvious buy.
On foot
- ·Città Alta is a compact Venetian-walled world: Piazza Vecchia, the basilica and the wall-top walk fill a half day on foot
- ·Walk the walls at sunset toward San Vigilio; the climb back down through Porta San Giacomo into the lower town is all downhill grace
Taxis and driving
- ·Ranks at the station and airport; the funicular beats any cab up to Città Alta
- ·Città Alta is ZTL almost always and parking near the walls is a blood sport on weekends; park low, ride up
