Santa Margherita Ligure-Portofino. On the Genoa to La Spezia line with regional and Intercity stops; the harbour is a 10 minute walk downhill. This is the rail gateway for Portofino, which has no station.

The Portofino bus runs the corniche from the station and harbour; the seasonal Tigullio ferries do the same trip by water.

One bus or boat hop to Portofino and back is all most days need; walk one way along the Paraggi coast path if the heat allows.
On foot
- ·The palm lined harbour front and the old town are one flat walk
- ·The coast path to Paraggi and on to Portofino takes about an hour and beats sitting in the corniche traffic
Taxis and driving
- ·Do not drive to Portofino: its tiny car park charges famously eye watering rates and fills instantly; park in Santa Margherita and take the bus, boat or path
