Varenna-Esino. The only classic mid-lake Como town with its own station: direct Trenord trains from Milano Centrale in about an hour. The village and ferry pier are a 10 minute lakeside walk below the station.

Varenna itself is a stack of stepped lanes; the ferry is the local transit, crossing to Bellagio and Menaggio in minutes
