Catania Centrale. On the sea side of the centre, a 15 minute walk from Piazza del Duomo; the Circumetnea railway (for the Etna foothill villages) leaves from its own Borgo station uptown.

The baroque centre is a compact walk; buses and the little metro matter for the beach lidos and Ognina.

- ·Via Etnea runs straight at the volcano: the classic walk is Duomo to Villa Bellini with Etna filling the street's end
- ·The fish market behind Piazza del Duomo is the morning show; lava-stone pavements get slick when wet

- ·Catania traffic is Palermo's sparring partner and the centre is ZTL; for Etna or the Cyclops coast rent on the way out, not for the city
