Arriving
Bologna Centrale. Italy's rail crossroads: high-speed trains fan out to Florence (35 min), Milan and Venice (about an hour each). The old town starts a 10 minute walk down Via Indipendenza.

The centre is compact and famously porticoed, so most sightseeing is a covered walk; buses earn their keep for San Luca and the Fiera district.

- ·Via Indipendenza, the Quadrilatero market lanes and both towers sit within a 15 minute radius
