Como San Giovanni (and Como Nord Lago). Two stations, two railways: Trenord regionals from Milano Centrale reach San Giovanni (about 40 minutes, around 5.20 euros), while the Nord line from Milano Cadorna ends at Como Nord Lago, right on the waterfront.
Funicular Como-Brunate single €3.60: one ride up to Brunate, the balcony village above the lake.
The lake IS the transit system: Navigazione Laghi boats fan out to Bellagio, Varenna and the villa towns, slow ferries for the views, hydrofoils for the schedule.
Train tickets via the Trenord app or machines; boat tickets at the Navigazione Laghi kiosks on the lakefront; ASF bus tickets at tabaccherie.
Check Navigazione Laghi's day passes if you plan more than one boat hop; single mid-lake fares add up quickly.
