Perugia Fontivegge (below the hill). The station sits in the valley: the MiniMetro whisks you up from its Pincetto terminal into the old town's edge in 10 minutes, doing painlessly what Perugia's hill otherwise charges in sweat.

MiniMetro and bus single €1.50: 70 minutes across the MiniMetro and city buses.
Passes: Day ticket €4.50.
Machines at every MiniMetro station, tabaccherie, or the app; the little driverless cars glide every minute or so.
One ride up, one down and the centre walked between them covers most visits; the day ticket suits an out-and-back to the station plus the Ponte San Giovanni side.
On foot
- ·The top of town is a ridge walk: Corso Vannucci, the Duomo steps and the Carducci gardens' sunset over the valley all sit on one flat spine, everything off it slopes
- ·The escalator route up through the buried Rocca Paolina is half commute, half archaeology, take it at least once
Taxis and driving
- ·Rank at Fontivegge; rarely needed once the MiniMetro has you up top
- ·The historic centre is ZTL; the smart drivers' trick is the free-ish Pian di Massiano park-and-ride at the MiniMetro's bottom terminal
